SPE are working towards the Investors in the Environment Bronze Award
In line with their recently released Sustainability Plan, which sets out SPE’s strategy for working towards Net Zero, reducing impact on the environment and Corporate Social Responsibility actions, SPE have committed to achieving the Investors in the Environment Bronze Award.
Investors in the Environment (IIE) is a national environmental accreditation scheme designed to help organisations reduce their impact on the environment, and achieve recognition for their progress. Through target setting, energy and fuel monitoring, creating action plans and communicating these processes, companies and organisations can improve their environmental impact. A series of awards can be achieved to show recognition of the achievement and progress, starting with Bronze, through Silver and culminating in the Green award. Each progression involves further actions and commitments, with more depth and breadth of monitoring of resources and energy.
SPE have put in place a Green Champion to drive the initiative and communicate across the organisation. Green projects are being planned and enacted, such as replacing all lighting with energy efficient LEDs and utilising water reducing ‘hippos’ in toilet cisterns in order to reduce the amount of water used in each flush and decrease water usage. A staff travel survey has been completed and a travel plan is being produced. Energy usage is being monitored with targets set for reduction of energy usage normalised against factory productivity.
Achieving the Bronze award is a step along the path towards Net Zero and having a positive environmental impact. After achieving the Bronze award, working towards Silver and Green will follow.
